On Tuesday, August 30th, 50 foodie philanthropists met at Mossback Cafe, a small restaurant in Kingston, for a special purpose: to attend the first-annual Kitsap Fresh Farm to Fork Fundraiser Dinner event sponsoring free memberships to the co-op’s online marketplace that connects customers to local farmers and artisan producers in Kitsap County.
Mossback’s Chef-Owners John Delp and Pam Buitenveld designed a special four-course menu for the event, which featured donations of fresh vegetables, fruit, eggs, herbs, pork, chicken, cheese, milk and coffee from local farms and producers including: Around the Table Farm, Clay & Coffee, Editor Melinda, Eggs-Cellence, Figuring on Food, Full Tilth Farm, Heyday Farm Store, Lone Rock Dairy, Pheasant Fields Farm, Rainbowzen Farm and The Smithshyre Farm.
The sun came out just in time for the guests’ arrival and they shared a medley of appetizers and drinks in Mossback’s courtyard garden before sitting down at community tables indoors and outside al fresco. During the course of the evening, attendees bid on decadent desserts and cheese platters donated by Fat Apple Bakery, Laughing Dog Bakery, Julia Zander, and Greenwoodes Farm and Organic Baked Goods. These funds went to further support sponsored customers who will be able to use Quest Cards and SNAP benefits in the coming year to purchase items ranging from milk, cheese, fruit and veggies to proteins like beef, pork, chicken, goat and turkey, as well as baked goods and herbs, all year long on the Kitsap Fresh online marketplace.
